H.K. Commerce and Industry Suppliers Ltd, dba Loafe Catering, located at 6163 University Blvd, Vancouver, BC V6T 1Z1, is currently recruiting a Catering Sous Chef (NOC 62200) for full-time, permanent position to start as soon as possible. This position requires a minimum of 40 hours of work per week.  The successful candidate must have at least 3 years of culinary experience, preferably in a catering setting. The salary range offered is $50,000 to $55,000 per annum depending on experience. Imperative that the successful candidate has prior experience and understanding of costing programs such as Optimum Control or other applicable inventory control software. Benefits include dental plan and group insurance.


Assist head chef to manage all activities in the kitchen, including food preparation and production, management, recruitment, training, development and improvements
Develop menus based on season and fresh product availability
Create daily specials and educate wait staff on ingredients to be communicated effectively to customers
Ensure efficient, cost-effective operation and profitability of food production
Assure adherence to high level food quality, preparation, recipes, presentation, and plating in conjunction with the restaurant’s recipes and specifications and served in a timely manner
Supervise and inspect cooking line, prep areas, storage areas, prep halls, loading docks, exterior compounds, coolers and freezers on a regular basis and ensure food service sanitation standards and health protection standards are met
Ensure kitchen personnel are trained in best cleanliness and sanitation practices
Assist head chef with food costs control by reviewing portion control, minimizing waste and conducting food inventory counts and variances are investigated and order from suppliers
Manage kitchenware and disposables budgets
Supervise kitchen staff schedules, overtime and labour targets
Monitor sales trends and forecasts to achieve profit

High school or GED equivalent and formal culinary training required
Minimum 3 years culinary experience, experience in catering setting preferred
Prior experience and understanding of costing programs such as Optimum Control or other applicable inventory control software
Strong communication skills with managers, kitchen and dining room employees, and guests
Ability to bend, stand, and stoop for long periods of time, and working long hours in hot conditions
